Building Stronger Communities:
Inclusive Support for All

Blaenau Gwent is unfortunately one of the most deprived areas in the UK and faces unique challenges, characterised by high unemployment, poor housing, limited access to services, and social isolation

Addressing these issues requires a multifaceted approach that involves community members, local organisations, and government agencies working collaboratively.  LMI plays a vital role as the central hub to which all members of Llanhilleth and surrounding areas can rely upon.

Because we are at the heart of the community we are in constant dialogue with the community in understanding their specific needs so that we can provide effective support.

The vision of the original miners who built LMI was around supporting education, welfare and wellbeing.  Today these are still the core foundations of what we do.

Our community support services are focused on promoting social inclusion.  This includes:

  • Creating opportunities for social interaction and community building.

  • Supporting volunteerism and community engagement.

  • Addressing issues of discrimination and inequality.

  • Improving access to physical and mental wellbeing activities and support.

We continually work with our community and introduce programmes that all cross sections of our community can access for no cost (or heavily subsidised).  We will continue to monitor what the most urgent needs are for those we support (from young children right through to the elderly) and proactively introduce new services where required.
